For me this book was 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 since there’s no way to show half a star in the rankings.Mark A. OTOH, if you’re considering buying it for $49.99 you might want to rethink it before spending that much money, unless of course you are familiar with Mark Noll’s other works and just know you like him as an author. My personal opinion is that if this book comes with a base package upgrade like it did for me, then by all means read it. The end of the chapter was about theologians and absolutely put me to sleep. I love the way he contrasted the state of the church in Canada with the USA of the same period, but in one of the chapters on the 20th century church (chapter 19 I believe it was) he started getting into personalities instead of the church itself.
But once it started getting into the 19th century Noll started to lose me. In fact, I pretty much enjoyed everything up through the period of the Great Awakening in the early to mid 18th century. I very much enjoyed the early chapters of the book discussing the church in the 16 th and 17th centuries.
